   What is FTP?

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the process by which files are transferred from your local computer to the Web server.

  • You must be connected to the Internet before you can transfer files via FTP.

  • Some Web site creation programs, like FrontPage, incorporate FTP into their functions. If you do not use Web site management software such as FrontPage, or if your Web site software does not include FTP (upload) capabilities, you will need to obtain an FTP program to upload your files.

  • For more information about Web site publishing tools visit http://www.domainz.net.nz/

  • Customers with Microsoft FrontPage extensions installed on their sites should only use the FrontPage publishing feature to transfer files.  Using a regular FTP program to transfer files can corrupt the extensions, disable the functionality of the FrontPage Web, and require the site to be deleted in order to reinstall the extensions.
