This
article assumes that you have already downloaded and installed a version of
Microsoft Internet Explorer and is using Version 6.0 – there may be some
slight variations for other versions of Internet Explorer.
From
the Start menu, select Programs, select Internet Explorer.
Go
to your FTP Address
In the Address Box of the Browser – type in :
ftp://ftp.<<yourdomainzname>>
So if your domain name is “webhosting.org.nz” you would type in the address
box:
ftp://ftp.webhosting.org.nz
Then hit the return key – a pop-up window should come-up asking you for a
user name and password as described in step 3

Enter
your user name and password – this will be the same as your control panel
user name and password.
Leave the “log on anonymously” box and the “Save Password” box unchecked
Click on “Log-On”

After
you have clicked on “Log-On” a list of all the files on your web site will
be displayed as shown below. You can now drag and drop, create new files etc
as you would on your local computer.
WARNING – deleting some files may cause your
website to not work or display correctly – especially of you have built your
web site using the DIY Web Builder Tool – To avoid this you should generally
not edit or change any of the files listed – but instead, create a new
directory in which you can store you document files such as PDFs, MS Word
files, or other files that you may wish to link to.
Move on to step 5 to see how to create a new folder.
Create
a new folder on your website to store the files that you wish to share.
In Internet Explorer
Choose “File / New / Folder”
This will create a new folder called “New Folder” so you’ll need to rename
this – we suggest using “documents” as a good name for storing these types
of files – be sure not to include any spaces in your file name!

So
now you can drag and drop files, delete files, rename files and so on into
your new documents directory in exactly the same way as you would if were
working in 2 directories on your local computer

Creating
a link to a file in your new directory.
If you want to create a link to a file in your new directory, all you need
to do is identify the path to the file. The file we uploaded above was
called “test.txt” and we put it into a directory called “documents” so the
path (or link) that you would use to link to this file would be:
http://www.webhosting.org.nz/documents/test.txt
If you are using the DIY
Web Builder to publish your web site then you would use just such a link as
the path for a link that you create.
