What
is the difference between Email Forwarding and a POP3 Box?
|
|
A Post Office Protocol, version 3 (POP3) account or POP3
Email Account or POP Box is an independent email account based on a standard
set of rules. They are typically email boxes that have their own unique
username and password. When someone sends email to your POP account (e.g.,
info@company.com), the mail is saved on our servers. To retrieve POP email
messages, a user must provide the correct email address, User ID, and
password.
Email Forwarding simply forwards email to an existing email
account. So you could have email sent to yourname@company.com forwarded to
sales@yourcompany.com for example. |
Set
Up A New Email Address |
|
To set up an email address do the following:
1. From the
Hosting and Email Tools Section in your Control Panel, click on “Email
/ Mail Settings”. The Configure Email Window is displayed.
2.
Click the
POP Accounts link.
You will be taken to the POP Accounts section of the page. Do the following:
@domain_name: Enter only the first part of the email address of your
POP account. For example in the case of sales@domain_name.com you will enter
just ‘sales’.
User ID: Enter a unique and easy-to-remember name or string of
characters (no more than 10 characters). This User ID is used to log you in
to access your email messages.
Password: Enter a unique password (no more than 8 characters).
Passwords should be hard to guess but easy to remember.
3. When you
have finished click Change. |
Rules
For creating Email addresses |
|
When creating or modifying
an email address, be aware that email addresses need to follow certain
standards. If the email address does not follow the rules, the account will
not be able to send or receive email successfully.
To avoid difficulties, use
the following rules when creating or modifying email addresses:
-
Use only
alphanumeric characters. That is, use only "A" through "Z" and "0 (zero)"
through "9".
-
Do not use
the following characters:
( ) [ ] ; : , @ \
-
As long as
they are not the first character in the email address, hyphens ( - ),
underscores ( _ ), periods ( . ), and numeric characters ("0" through "9")
are acceptable characters to use within the address.
For example:
